Hey Jack¡¦.
Heard that you are the “go to person” to ask about fishing Clearwater Lake¡¦and, heard you recently was there. Any tips on what to use and where to find them?
Thanks so much in advance,

Chris,
Well there has been a good smallmouth bite going on in the Black River arm. Small jigs(1/4 to 5/16) in natural shades like brown, green pumpkin or combinations of that. Also some on crankbaits. Last and final split shot rigged or light Carolina rigged Zoom Centipedes or French Fry. Hope it helps.

Chris,
Fished this weekend at Clearwater and lake was up and colder. The wind was really rough as well. We had a limit on Friday prefishing with one at 5lbs and another over 3.5lbs. Caught them on squarebill crank baits and on Redeye Shads.Again up in the Goose Creek and Bluffview Marina area. Smallmouth bite has about petered out. They have headed back up the river till next Fall. Web and Logan creeks have been very unproductive up till now this year with few catches but those caught are good fish.

Thanks a ton Jack….this is good info and I appreciate you taking the time to keep me up to date. I’m really looking forward to our trip in a few weeks and I’ll keep you posted with the results.
How deep were you fishing the square bill and red eye shads? From what I’ve read, the water in the areas you mention starts shallow at the bank (marina side) and gets deep on the bluff side and the topo maps that I have shows an island in the middle.
Chris
Chris,
no island just a big shoal. Boat setting in 6 to 10 feet of water casting to the shallows and working back. As you will see there is little physical cover but some around Goose Creek area. Lots of rocks every where. Fish the squarebill real hard around little cover you do find

Jack….heading to Clearwater early in the morning. I am very anxious and excited to get back on the water but first I wanted to thank you once more for the advice you have offered. I’m hoping to catch lots of big fish.
Peace,

Well we are back. Had a really fun day. The wind was a little rough in the afternoon, but we dealt with it fine. Big fish of the day was 2.64.lb. Two smaller ones after that just over a pound each. All caught on jigs….couldn’t get a hit on anything else. All were caught above Bluff View a ways and off the shallower rocks in 6-10 foot of water. Already looking forward to going back.
Thanks again Jack….really appreciate your advice and help.

During the seminars at the 2011 January Fishing Frenzy a question came up about “fizzing” bass. This is the term used for releasing air pressure build up from a bass’ air bladder. I hope this video can be of help.

- Have you been at Rend Lake recently and how and what are they catching them on?
- No I have not been recently. Give me about 48 hours and I will get you a report, so Drop Me a Line!
